The Guardian O'Malley Series Book 2
Author
Dee Henderson
Review
Several of the O'Malley family members are in some kind of law enforcement which puts them in some serious and dangerous situations. Marcus, the leader of the O'Malley family a U.S. Marshal assigned to an event to protect a judge who will be speaking and very possibly be nominated as a candidate for the next Supreme Court justice. Shari Hanford is present, both as a friend and the writer of Judge Carl Whitmore's speech. Shari gets advance word that Carl will be added to the short list of possible Supreme Court justices. Excited, her and her family plan a surprise dinner celebration back in their suite after the convention. Shari hears a noise in the adjoining suite, bang! Opens the door, barely misses getting hit only because her brother pounced on her and her father! In the blink of an eye, three very important people in Shari's life have been hit. One dead, one serious and the other not sure. Shari was a witness. She had seen the shooter which wasn't expected. She is now under heavy protection, being moved around so she isn't the next target. The funeral....she was almost taken out. Why did the shooter take out the judge? Shari, along with U.S. Marshal Marcus O'Malley direction and other agencies begin their investigation. It leads back to one of Judge Carl's decisions, it was revenge and now Shari must be taken out as the one and only witness. The family of the shooter will stop at nothing to make sure Shari doesn't testify before the grand jury. The O'Malley family is also dealing with the serious illness of one of the O'Malley's complicating things even more. Another relationship is blossoming but will one of them come back to believing in God so they can move forward?   PPL Catalog

Track of the Cat
Author
Nevada Barr
Review
Track of the Cat is the first in the Anna Pigeon mystery series. Author Nevada Barr has created a feisty, flawed, but quite believable heroine in Anna Pigeon. She's a woman carrying a lot of mental baggage who leaves the life of a New York city girl to become a national park ranger. In her first adventure/mystery, she comes upon a dead ranger colleague in the wilderness of the West Texas park she's assigned to. Everyone wants to believe the ranger died at the hands of a mountain lion, but Anna thinks otherwise. She encounters challenge after challenge proving them wrong. A good whodunit!   PPL Catalog
